The "Four Seasons Nature Workshop" event has been successfully held!!!

As the Landscape Architecture Department of BARU, in our 32nd year, we continue to participate in community service projects together with our students.

In this context, the first stage of our "Four Seasons Nature Workshop" event, planned in collaboration with BARU & the Ministry of National Education, was completed at Istiklal Primary School on February 26th and 27th, 2026. This was led by BARU Faculty of Architecture Landscape Architecture faculty members Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yeliz Sarı Nayim, Dr. Lecturer B. Niyami Nayim, and Istiklal Primary School Classroom Teacher Fatma Karademir. Activities conducted with our young students included a book reading activity (in-class, "Who Took My Leaves?", Author: Alice Hemming), an activity introducing autumn leaves and fruits (in-class), and a creative nature art drawing workshop (in-class, design with dried leaves, drawing squirrels, hedgehogs, rain, and trees).

With the contributions of our undergraduate students who successfully completed the Plant Materials I and II courses, young children embarked on a journey to learn about nature, art, and creativity in the classroom, discovering plants and other living things in different seasons.

The workshop aimed to provide nature education that brought together university students and primary school students within the framework of landscape conservation. Through these activities, university students moved from theory to practice, participating in a social responsibility project integrated with the community, while primary school students had the opportunity to observe the changes in nature in different seasons from various perspectives and to learn about nature materials in their classrooms.

We know that one of the best ways for children to learn is through play. We believe that through fun, hands-on nature workshops, we can contribute to raising more environmentally conscious, healthy, and happy children and individuals for society.

With this goal in mind, in the Spring semester of 2025-2026, nature workshop activities will continue in collaboration with the BARÜ Landscape Architecture Department and Bartın MEB İstiklal Primary School, with both in-class and out-of-classroom training sessions.

We would like to express our gratitude to our Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Akkaya, our Governor Nurtaç Aslan, our Provincial Director of National Education Ramazan Aşçı, our Dean Prof. Dr. Handan Acun Özel, our Department Head Prof. Dr. Canan Cengiz, the Principal of İstiklal Primary School Celil Kanat, our Class Teacher Fatma Karademir, our undergraduate students, and our little ones for approving our event and providing the opportunity for this University-Primary School meeting.
